Recruiting Rundown

This weeks Recruiting Rundown takes a look at Jabari Parker's new list, two upcoming top 100 decisions and some key visits this weekend.

Top player narrows list

Jabari Parker is down to five schools.

Parker, the top rated player in the 2013 class, cut his list to Duke, Michigan State, Florida, BYU and Stanford. Parker narrowed his list from 10 schools. He met with all 10 for in-home visits.

Next up for the Chicago (Ill.) Simeon standout is to begin taking official visits. He plans to visit Duke the weekend of October 27th and then will head to Florida the following weekend.

Parker doesn't appear to be in a hurry with his recruiting process. With his list at five and just two visits set prior to the early signing period, I'd expect his recruitment to go past the first period.

Parker averaged nearly 20 points and nine rebounds a game as a junior and helped lead Simeon to a third state championship.

Just a few commitments

The weekend didn't yield many college choices. In fact, not one top 100 prospect gave a verbal pledge this past weekend.

Perhaps the most significant decision came from Dayshon "Scoochie" Smith, who committed to Archie Miller and Dayton on Friday. Smith picked the Flyers over interest from Providence, Penn State, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Wichita State.

Among the other pledges this weekend were Jeffrey Carrol (Oklahoma State), ShawnDre Jones (Richmond), Carlton Hurst (Colorado State) and OJ Peterson (VMI).

New top 5

With the Harrison twins' pledge to Kentucky, the Wildcats have jumped to No. 1 in the latest 2013 class rankings.

Kentucky also holds a pledge from in-state standout Derek Willis, a three-star prospect. That gives the cats a pair of top three recruits and a prospect just outside the FOX Sports NEXT Top 100.

Following Kentucky on the list is Florida, who has commitments from a pair of top 10 recruits – Kasey Hill & Chris Walker. The Gators had Julius Randle on campus this past weekend and are also in the mix for Jabari Parker.

Memphis, Louisville and Duke close out the top 5.

Two decisions this week

Two top 100 prospects will announce their college decisions this week.

Xavier Rathan-Mayes, of Huntington (W.V.) Prep, and Josh Hart, of Washington (D.C.) Sidwell Friends, will both make their college intentions known by the end of the week.

Rathan-Mayes is planning to announce his choice on Saturday. He's considering Florida State, Illinois and Connecticut. Rathan-Mayes, a four-star recruit, is ranked the No. 40 overall prospect in the 2013 class.

Hart is down to Rutgers, Villanova and Penn State. He plans to announce his destination on Wednesday. Hart is ranked No. 87 overall in the 2013 class.
