PrepWestHoops has learned that Tim Drisdom, 6-2 PG Downey (Calif.) Calvary Chapel, made it official Tuesday afternoon and committed to Rick Majerus and Utah.
Two different sources confirmed the commitment, as Drisdom becomes the first member of the Ute's class this year.
On the rumor front, the hottest unconfirmed news is that Antoine Wright, 6-6 SR SF, Groton (Mass.) Lawrence Academy (but originally from San Bernardino) is a done deal for Texas A&M.
Matt Haryazs, 6-10 SR C, Page (Ariz.) High, is probably the hottest commodity among west coast prospects. Within a week, Haryazs has gone from having a few Pac-10 schools sniffing around and mostly being recruited by Mountain West and WCC schools, to having the likes of Kentucky, Kansas and Arizona beating a trail to his games. The word is that Haryazs will probably be able to go wherever he wants, including to Kentucky, but he might not want to leave the west coast.
Brad Buckman, 6-8 PF, Austin (Tex.) Westlake, is easily one of the top four men in the country. While there have been rumors that he might open up his recruitment and look at some new schools, we've heard that, in the end, he will definitely go to Texas.
Jordan Kent, 6-5 SG, Eugene (Ore.) Churchill, has been extremely impressive at the Best of Summer. Although it hasn't been announced officially yet, Kent will play for his father, Ernie Kent, at Oregon. Jodan is a big-time track star and he'll walk on to the basketball team. Getting Jordan without having to use a ride is a very nice bonus for Ernie and the Ducks.
Finally, we had a short chat with Thomas Gardner, 6-4 JR SG Portland (Ore.) Jefferson, yesterday. Thomas, who figures to be among the top 25-50 players in the country next year, told us the two schools he's always liked are Arizona and Duke.
