Three Stand Out For Sweeney

Iziahiah Sweeney, a promising junior wing from Compton (Calif.), has three West Coast programs at the top of his list...

Iziahiah Sweeney, 6-2 JR SG Compton (Calif.) High, is an explosive athlete with solid ball skills and a very nice upside. With continued development, he has a chance to be among the better wing prospects in the west for 2014.

I spoke with Sweeney recently and asked him about the schools he's been hearing from lately.

"Gonzaga, Loyola Marymount, UCLA, Utah State and Oregon State have been the main ones so far," said Sweeney.

When asked if he has a favorite at this time, Sweeney replied, "Gonzaga, Oregon State and UCLA."

I asked Sweeney what made those schools stand out for him.

"With Oregon State, my friend Victor Robbins goes there and he's been telling me how good it is up there," said Sweeney. With Gonzaga, Coach Daniels and I have a good relationship. I've been up to UCLA a lot and I really like the atmosphere and the campus."

Sweeney said he has taken unofficial visits so far to LMU, USC and UCLA.

Sweeney talked a little about the issues he'll consider when picking a school.

"I want to play someplace with a good atmosphere and a big arena," said Sweeney. "Winning is definitely a factor. As far as location, I'd like to stay on the West Coast close to my mom. "

Sweeney said he has a time frame in mind for picking a school.

"I'd like to decide right after the AAU season, sometime in August," said Sweeney.

Sweeney said he has a 3.4 GPA.
