2015 Williams has early interest

Sophomore D.J. Williams has early interest from a handful of high major programs.

D.J. Williams is a 2015 recruit to keep an eye on this coming high school season.

Although Williams, a product of Chicago (Ill.) Simeon, didn't receive a ton of varsity burn as a freshman, he's expected to make a much bigger impact in his sophomore season.

At 6-foot-7, Williams is a long, skilled forward that likes to face the rim and attack. At the recent John Lucas Midwest Invitational, Williams even spent time playing on the ball.

"People compare me to Rudy Gay," Williams told Scout.com. "I'm smooth, versatile, long and can do pretty much everything. I'm just working hard and want to get better."

High major schools are already prioritizing Williams. Illinois and DePaul have offered, while Nebraska, Michigan State, Kentucky and others have showed some interest.

"I was supposed to go to Kentucky's midnight madness but I couldn't make it," Williams said.

Williams' offer came from Illinois during a June visit to the school. That trip left a lasting impression on the talented sophomore.

"I took a visit to Illinois in the summer," he said. "It was fun. That's when they offered me a scholarship. I loved it. I fell in love when I went there."

Williams ran with the Meanstreets travel team on the spring and summer circuit.
