Doing his prep year at South Kent (Conn.) School, Richards will have a chance to continue to refine his game. South Kent Head Coach Kelvin Jefferson says so far things have gone well for Richards and he has been impressive.
"I am real pleased with Kammall as a player," said Jefferson. "He is strong, he competes, he hates to lose, and what he does well is finish everything around the basket. He has great body control and is strong enough to take contact and finish and get the and one. He is a guy who I expect to get a lot of free throw attempts because he is willing to use his body and make plays."
Jefferson continued, "Also he is really shooting the ball well right now. He has pretty good range on his jump shot and he is really shooting it well. I think that has really helped his game."
In terms of his recruitment, Jefferson says things have definitely picked up in the last month or so.
"Recruiting wise right now he just came back from Xavier," said Jefferson. "He really, really liked Xavier and they are doing a great job of recruiting him. He has St. Joe's this weekend for his official visit. Duquesne is still involved, Seton Hall is still very involved, and South Carolina came up. They were real impressed with him and I think they are going to make a run at him."
After taking his official visit to St. Joe's, Jefferson expects Richards and his family to take a look at what they want the next step to be with the recruitment.
"I really think right now he wants to play out his visits," explained Jefferson. "He wants to take this visit with his mom to St. Joseph's, and then re-evaluate from there. After he decides if he wants to take more visits that is when he will decide what he wants to do."
Richards is a three-star combo forward he spent last year at Newark (NJ) St. Benedict's.
