Edwards talks recent visits

Class of 2015 point guard Hyron Edwards has been busy with unofficial visits so far this fall.

One of the top point guards in the class of 2015 is East Chicago (Ind.) Central star Hyron Edwards. The athletic floor general recently took some visits and is just beginning to get serious about his recruitment.

Edwards had a strong high school season as a freshman playing varsity, but then exploded onto the scene running with Indiana Elite over the summer.

"It was a great summer," said the 5-foot-11 Edwards. "We went 39-3 and we had a great time. It was more than just me, but it was great to get all the attention because of the winning our team did."

Schools such as Michigan, Michigan State, Indiana, Purdue, Notre Dame, Illinois, Butler, and Ohio State all took notice of Edwards.

Recently Edwards had a chance to visit Indiana, Purdue, and Illinois, all three of which have offered him a scholarship.

Edwards is no stranger to Purdue, and he liked what he saw there.

"It was a great visit," said Edwards of the Boilers. "I like the staff and the players. I know them all pretty well, and I think the team can be very god."

He continued, "It would be great to stay close to home. It would allow my friends and family to see me play so it is something I am considering."

After the visit to Purdue he made the trip to Indiana for Hoosier Hysteria.

"The atmosphere there was crazy," said Edwards. "They had a lot of fans there and obviously with them being pre-season No. 1 the program is back. I like the guys on the team and the staff a lot as well."

The most recent trip was to Illinois where Edwards got to hang out with some fellow 2015 stars and see the Illini.

"It was a great visit as well," said Edwards. "I got to meet Kendrick Nunn and then saw the Simeon guys like D.J. Williams and Charles Matthews who are my guys."

He continued, "I like that Illinois runs a fast offense where they shoot threes and use a lot of ball screens. Also the staff seems like they are great."

Even with all of the early interest and offers, Edwards says things are remaining slow in his recruitment.

"I am taking it one step at a time," said Edwards. "I just want to see all of my options and then I will talk things over with my coaches and family."
