Recruiting Rundown

This weeks Recruiting Rundown touches on Noah Vonleh's surprise decision, Indiana's jump in the recruiting class rankings and Austin Colbert's impending decision.

Surprise, Vonleh makes his choice

The timing of Noah Vonleh's college choice was certainly a surprise.

Vonleh's actually choice, however, was not.

Vonleh was planning to take college visits to Ohio State, North Carolina and others following his trip to Indiana this past weekend, but the Hoosiers had other plans.

Tom Crean, assistant and Kenny Johnson made Vonleh, a top 100 recruit, their main priority. Crean went to New Hampton just after he moved to the 2013 class and they quickly moved to get him on campus.

Johnson built a relationship with Vonleh and his mother. In the end, that relationship played a major role in the college decision. New Hampton coach Pete Hutchins cited Johnson as one of the factors in Vonleh's decision.

"Ever since Kenny Johnson got the job they did a very thorough job of recruiting Noah," said Hutchins. "They did a great job throughout the entire process including watching him over the summer and this fall."

With the addition of Vonleh, IU now has an elite prospect in their already impressive 2013 class. Vonleh is ranked No. 8 overall in the 2013 player rankings.

IU jumps to No. 2

Prior to the weekend, Indiana ranked No. 11 in the 2013 recruiting class rankings. Following the Vonleh decision, IU has jumped up to No. 2.

Indiana's class now consists of Vonleh (No. 8), Troy Williams (No. 43), Stanford Robinson (No. 59), Luke Fischer (four-star), Devin Davis (three-star) and Colin Hartman (three-star).

This gives the Hoosier's the best class in the Big Ten for the second year in a row. There isn't another Big Ten school ranked among the top 10.

Signing Day approaches

The first signing period begins on Wednesday.

Last year there wasn't much action on actual signing day, outside of five-star guard Gary Harris announcing his decision for Michigan State. This time around, there could be multiple decisions.

While none of the remaining four top 10 prospects are expected to decide, Isaac Hamilton, Kennedy Meeks, Brandon Austin, BeeJay Anya, Tyler Roberson and Joel Embiid are all prospects that could or will announce this week.

The fall signing period goes from November 14th to November 21st. The spring signing period doesn't begin until April 17th.

Colbert to announce Monday

Austin Colbert is ready to announce his college decision.

Colbert, a top 30 power forward out of Gladstone (N.J.) Gill St. Bernards, will choose either Illinois or Villanova. Colbert has officially visited both of his finalists.

Colbert is expected to make his announcement around 3:00 ET.
