Embiid gives Kansas the nod

Kansas added a significant piece to their 2013 recruiting class on Tuesday. Joel Embiid gave the Jayhawks a verbal commitment.

Joel Embiid's decision is in.

After narrowing his list to Kansas, Texas and Florida, the four-star center committed to Bill Self and the Jayhawks on Tuesday.

Gainesville (Fla.) The Rock School coach Justin Harden confirmed the news to Scout.com.

"He feels like he will be developed better there and it felt better in his gut," Harden said. "Texas and Florida were very close too. It was a very difficult deciison for him."

Embiid took official visits to all three of his finalists. He also met with all three of the schools last week. Kansas and Texas visited him at his school, while Florida had him swing by their campus for a face-to-face meeting.

With the addition of the 7-foot, 220-pound Embiid, Kansas jumps to No. 2 in the 2013 recruiting class rankings. Embiid joins a class that consists of three top 100 prospects -- Wayne Selden, Brannen Greene and Conner Frankamp. Frank Mason is also committed to the Jayhawks.
