2014 Intro: Sam Jones

Sam Jones, a junior forward from Arizona with a very nice stroke, gives us his initial recruiting impressions...

Sam Jones, 6-6 JR PF Gilbert (Ariz.) High, is a skilled and slender face up four-man with a nice stroke to 17-19 feet. While it's possible he plays some three in college, right now we're projecting he ends up more at the four.

Gilbert has a variety of West Coast programs expressing interest in him.

"Colorado, Oregon, Stanford, Cal, New Mexico, a little bit from Arizona State and Arizona, as well as Northern Arizona and UC Davis," said Gilbert. "I'm really interested to going to a Pac-12 school, that's my dream."

I asked Jones what he's looking for in a school.

"I'd like to be fairly close to home, not too far away," said Jones. "I'd like to play in an up tempo offense. I want to go to a school with a good atmosphere. As far as early playing time, I don't care about starting but I would like to be able to get some minutes."

Jones has taken unofficial visits to Northern Arizona and ASU. I asked for his impression of Arizona State.

"I really liked it a lot," said Jones. "Coach Sendek is a great guy. They're trying to change everything there and they're going to be more up tempo. I really liked ASU."

I asked Jones if he has a time frame for picking a school.

"I'd like to decide around this time next year," said Jones.

Jones said he has a 3.7 GPA.
