Brandon Bowman, 6-6 SR SF, Los Angeles (Calif.) Westchester, stepped out from the other talented players on the Westchester team this July and made a strong name for himself in his own right.
Bowman set a tone for the month when he played very well early at the Nike Camp in Indianapolis. With his long arms and quickness, Bowman presents match-up problems for smaller defenders. And, when he plays defense, he's a force, with the combination of size and quick feet making him a stop-down defender.
Bowman said that his recruiting was going well, that he was hearing from a long list of schools, and then proceeded to give us one. "Maryland, Georgetown, Virginia, New Mexico, Kansas, Boston College, and Tennessee are my main schools right now," Bowman said. With no local schools on the list and only one in the west, the question of whether Bowman wanted to leave home had to come up. "Yeah, I'd like to get away. I'd like to go away and have a college experience away from home."
There has also been some talk of Bowman going in a package with one or more of his fellow Westchester teammates. He shares a few schools in common with co-Comet, Hassan Adams. "We've talked about it," Bowman said. "I wouldn't mind. It would be nice to go somewhere with someone you know. It would influence me, where they go, but I definitely need to make my own decision."
And what's the time frame for that decision? "I have no idea," Bowman said. "I don't know when I'll commit. I'm still sorting everything out."
Bowman said he has a 3.0 GPA and will take the SAT in October. He did say that he had scored an 1190 on the PSAT.
