Top Performers: D.C. Events

The Gonzaga D.C. Classic and the National High School Hoops Festival provided us with a handful of impressive performances. Josh Hart, Kris Jenkins, Dion Wiley, Marcus Derrickson and Cheick Diallo topped our list.

Quick Take: It was a big weekend for Josh Hart. He helped lead Sidwell Friends to the title game of the Gonzaga D.C. Classic and was named MVP of the event in the process. On Friday night he pumped in 27 points and went for a tournament high 37 in the championship game. Hart plays hard every time he steps on the floor and is a terrific all around rebounder.

Quick Take: Kris Jenkins' 31-point outing was impressive to watch, especially considering he's not in the best playing shape. Jenkins knows how to put the ball in the basket and should be able to help Villanova in that area. His long-range shots were going down, but he also has such good touch around the rim. People will always question his size, but Jenkins has proved time and time again that he is productive and that will continue when he is in college.

Quick Take: It wasn't Wiley's best shooting performance from long-range (3-for-9 from three), but it was still impressive watching him pump in points. He scored 26 points and also reeled in eight rebounds. He has a quick release on his shot, plus deep range and the ability to go off the bounce and get a bucket. Wiley also contributed on the glass and made a few nice passes in Potomac's afternoon win on Saturday.

Recruiting: Villanova, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Maryland, Cincinnati & Georgetown

Quick Take: Despite fouling out against Oak Hill, Derrickson still provided Paul VI with a major boost. He's known for his ability to knock down deep jump shots and he hit a few in each of Paul VI's games this weekend, but he also showed an impressive ability to maneuver in the paint and in the high post and score. He has tremendous hands and touch, but also great awareness when he's attacking from 15 to 18-feet from the rim.

Recruiting: Indiana, Maryland, Georgetown, Rutgers, Syracuse, Villanova, Virginia, Virginia Tech & others

Quick Take: Cheick Diallo's defensive performance on Sunday was one of the better ones I've seen in quite some time. Anytime someone attacked the rim they were met by the 6-foot-9 Diallo. He swatted double-digit shots and protected the rim like Chris Obepka used to do for Our Savior New American. Diallo, a 2015 prospect, is long, a very good athlete, plus has great timing.
