White continues strong junior season

Four-star forward Paul White seems to be taking his game to a new level as a junior.

Junior Paul White has always had all the talent in the world. The Chicago (Ill.) Whitney Young product has shown flashes of that talent at different times throughout his high school career, and now he is starting to do it consistently as a junior.

In a big Whitney Young win at the Cancer Research Classic, White was excellent. He was efficient scoring, rebounded the ball, and showed his skill level.

"I was just telling myself that my offense was going to come," said White. "They gave me some room so I didn't force it and just shot the pull up. I have to take pressure off of Jahlil (Okafor). I've been in a stretch where I have been playing real good, and I am trying to keep that up."

Recruiting wise things continue to be busy for White who has been on the radar since he was a freshman.

"I would probably say recently it has been Marquette, Illinois, Arizona, Florida, Kentucky has called a few times, DePaul, and that is about it," said White.

Marquette and Assistant Coach Isaac Chew have been very consistent in recruiting White, and he feels the Golden Eagles could be a good fit for his game.

"Coach Chew and Coach Buzz (Williams) are up there working their butts off with the players that they have and they are doing a great job with what they have," said White. "Basically Coach Chew has told me that every player Buzz has had that has played my position has been a success."

He continued about Marquette, "It shows with Jae Crowder who is in the NBA now. They are just a great program and they are fun to be around. I like that they tell you things that you need to hear and not what you want to hear."

In the state, Illinois has also made White a focus, and it is the head coach who is handling the recruitment personally.

"It's been great since the new staff got to Illinois," said White. "John Groce is over there doing what he does. He coaches them and they are having great success with it. Basically the coach I have been keeping in contact with has been Coach Groce himself. They have made it clear to me that they want me over there. It seems what he is doing over there is real productive and real good, and that is appealing to someone like me."

Also the Florida Gators are making sure that they are a factor in this battle as well.

"I got an offer from them over the summer and I have been keeping in touch with Coach (Rashon) Burno," said White. "They play the style how I would want to play. They get up and down and allow me to push it myself. Also they have a lot of success with guys who have come through that program and I think it would be fun to play in a system like that."

Now that it is January of his junior season White is allowed to make visits. While he admits he has thought about them, the four-star prospect says he doesn't think trips will happen during the season.

"I have thought about visits, but I know they probably won't come right now," White explained. "If anything I might take them in June if that is allowed. I have to sit down and see what times are possible for me. I am going to start cutting my list down soon."
