High majors track 2015 Matthews

2015 guard Charles Matthews is having a strong sophomore season and high major programs are taking notice.

Charles Matthews is an important piece of the puzzle for Chicago (Ill.) St. Rita's.

In fact, according to coach Gary DeCesare, Matthews, a 6-foot-4 sophomore combination guard, helps control his team on the court.

"Charles does so many good things that go unnoticed," DeCesare said. "He controls the game and doesn't worry about scoring. He usually has double-doubles with rebounds and assists."

"I'm doing good," Matthews told Scout.com. "I'm playing good. I'm playing point guard and trying to get everybody involved and score when needed."

Matthews has spent most of his time playing point guard for St. Rita. He said that's where he sees himself playing in college as well.

"I love it," he said about playing point guard. "I love playing on the ball, but when I play the two guard I have a scorers mentality as well."

Not only are things going well for Matthews on the court, but also he's reeling in college interest off of it.

"It's going very well," he said of his recruitment. "I've heard lately from Ohio State, Michigan State, Kansas and Missouri. They've been recruiting me. I just have offers Arizona, Illinois, DePaul, SMU and Providence."

Matthews said the only college visit he's taken recently was to Illinois.

"I went down to Illinois for their homecoming game," Matthew said. "I had a good time at that."

"They are the in-state school so they are really to recruit me hard," Matthews added.

Despite the early interest, Matthews said he's a long ways away from making his college choice.

"I won't make a decision until I'm a senior anyways," he said. "I'm just weighing out all my options and just trying to get a good look at every school."

Matthews is regarded as the No. 7 overall prospect in the 2015 class.
