Updates on Two Big Guys

One previously known post player, David Chiotti, further proves himself, and his unknown AAU teammate, Derek Quinnett, makes his debut in July, and they get plenty of recruiting attention...

One of the best frontcourt players in the west, David Chiotti, 6-8 SR PF, Mountain View (Calif.) St. Francis, had a nice July, averaging about 17 points and 7 rebounds a game for the month.

He has a nice tidy list of eight schools: New Mexico, Arizona State, Cal, UTEP, San Diego State, Santa Clara, Portland and UCSB.

Derek Quinnett, 6-8 SR PF, San Jose (Calif.) Santa Teresa, was completey unknown until July, and then, playing alongside David Chiotti on the Bay Area Ballers AAU squad, he quickly had recruiting interest and scholarship offers coming his way. Quinnett, being at least 225 and built like a Russian weight-lifter, is a high commodity in a year that lacks big men, especially big big men. Quinnett is raw, but also showed good feet and hands. Idaho, Portland State, Portland, Cal State Fullerton and St. Mary's have jumped on him. There was a question of whether his academics were good enough to qualify but the lastest word is that he has a very good chance of qualifying.
