2013 Intro: Malik Thames

Senior guard Malik Thames, the younger brother of San Diego State standout Xavier Thames, is a very promising prospect in his own right....

Malik Thames, 6-1 SR PG Pleasant Grove (Calif.) Elk Grove, has had a very good senior season and a number of schools are expressing interest in him.

"I'm hearing from Fresno State, Northridge, Boise State, UC Santa Barbara and UC Irvine," said Thames. "Fresno State has probably been recruiting me the hardest."

I asked Thames if he has a leader.

"I'm wide open, but if I had to pick a school it would probably be Fresno State right now," said Thames.

Thames said he's hoping to make a visit soon.

"I visited Irvine a while ago and I was supposed to go to Northridge, but it didn't happen," said Thames. "I'm planning on going to Fresno sometime in the next few weeks for a game."

I asked Thames what he's looking for in a school.

"I want to have a good relationship with the coaching staff," said Thames. "The style of play is also important. That and the staff are probably the two most important things. As far as early playing time, I'd like to compete and hopefully get some time early. But if I only play a little early, I will understand."

Thames said he's hoping to make a decision soon.

"After my season is done, I will sit down with my Dad," said Thames. "Right now, my primary focus is on finishing the season well."
