Edwards takes several trips

One of the top point guards in the 2015 class has made several unofficial visits recently.

Class of 2015 point guard Hyron Edwards has been busy recently. Not only is the East Chicago (Ind.) Central product putting up big numbers on the court, but he has been made several unofficial visits as well.

Edwards exploded this spring and summer playing with Indiana Elite and leading his team to numerous tournament titles. That led to offers from schools such as Indiana, Purdue, and Illinois with other significant interest coming in.

Recently Edwards was a guest of Michigan State as the Spartans took on the Michigan Wolverines. For Edwards it was a great experience and he enjoyed the visit.

"The atmosphere was great there," said Edwards. "Michigan and Michigan State is a rivalry game. Michigan didn't play well, but it was a great game. I know Coach (Tom) Izzo was happy about the win and how his team played. It was a great game to be at."

Also Edwards has been to Purdue on a pair of occasions and he came away liking what he saw on those trips.

"It was the same, the place was packed and they were playing top Big Ten schools," explained Edwards. "It was a great atmosphere there and it was a good time seeing Purdue."

Beyond those two schools, Edwards also had a chance to see Indiana host Michigan, and the Assembly Hall experience was a good one for him.

"Man it was a great atmosphere," noted Edwards. "The gym was packed and it was two great teams who were both in the top five. I learned a lot of great things at that game watching Trey Burke and Yogi (Ferrell). Also I got to see guys from The Region, Glenn Robinson, Mitch McGary, and Spike Albrecht. It was good to see them play and it was a good game overall."

While he has yet to visit Illinois or Michigan for a game, the two have been very active and remain firmly in the mix going forward.

Michigan doesn't offer until June 15, and that is something that Edwards is looking forward to.

"Coach (John) Beilein said that they were going to shoot me an offer during AAU season and for me to keep playing hard and getting my teammates involved," explained Edwards. "I am definitely looking forward to that offer."

Also Edwards is developing a strong relationship with the staff at Illinois.

"Illinois, we keep in touch almost every week," explained Edwards. "I call Coach Walker about stuff outside of basketball. We talk about school, practice, and basically just how I am doing. Coach Walker, Coach (John) Groce, my parents, and I all have a good relationship. Things are good so far."

For now Edwards is just gathering as much information as he can about all the schools and says no one school stands out over another.
