Copeland surprises Georgetown with commitment

Isaac Copeland caught Georgetown off guard when he verbally pledged to the Hoyas following an unofficial visit.

2014 forward Isaac Copeland made a surprise commitment on Sunday.

During an unofficial visit to Georgetown, Copeland opted to give John Thompason III and his staff a verbal pledge.

"He was happy and a little surprised," Copeland said about telling Thompson III the news. "I don't think they expected me to commit this weekend."

Copeland said he was ready to commit and didn't feel the need to drag the recruting process on any longer.

"I already had an idea of where I wanted to go and I just felt like now was the right time," he said.

Copeland, a four-star prospect out of Charlottesville (Va.) The Miller School, said Georgetown's style of play factored into his decision making.

"I like everything about the schools as I think I fit in well with their system," Copeland told Scout.com. "Plus I have a good relationship with the coaches."

Copeland said he also strongly considered North Carolina State and Florida State.

Copeland is ranked No. 61 overall in the 2014 recruiting class.
