Chase Griffin Draws Interest

Chase Griffin, 6-2 SG Redmond (Wash.) Eastlake, drew the attention of a number of coaches with his play last month. We talked with him about the schools he's considering and some of the factors he'll be looking at when making his decision.

Chase Griffin, 6-2 SG Redmond (Wash.) Eastlake, is a player who helped himself with a series of strong performances in July.

We talked with Chase recently and he told us that he's hearing from Santa Clara, Pepperdine, Nevada, SMU, Northwestern and Oregon St., among others.

We asked if anyone had made a particular impression and Chase said, "All the coaches have been really nice. Nevada has been great -- they're calling every week."

Chase said that he's not necessarily interested in staying close to home and that academics would be his first priority, then basketball.

When asked about other factors he would consider, Chase said, "I want to play in an up tempo system, where they get up and down. Also, I'd like to play with a smart team."

We questioned him on his feelings about playing in a major conference, where playing time might be tough to come by, or possibly competing at a lower level, and Chase replied, "I think I'd prefer a lower level where I know I can play."

Chase told us that he plans on weighing all his options and there's a good chance he could wait until spring.

He said that he has a 3.4 GPA and doesn't have an SAT score yet.
