Cunningham making improvements

Josh Cunningham is a forward from the Windy City that has several offers with more potentially coming after the April evaluation period.

Three-star forward Josh Cunningham is a player with a lot of talent. He is about 6-foot-6 with good athleticism and now he is showing the versatility to play inside or on the wing. His coaches swear he is primed to blowup this spring, and he showed some solid signs at the NY2LA Swish N Dish.

During the high school year Chicago (Ill.) Morgan Park came home with a state title, and Cunningham was a big part of it.

"This year went pretty good," said Cunningham. "We won state so I am pretty happy about that. I think I really stepped up this year and made some big shots when we needed it."

Cunningham has played inside most of his life, but now he is beginning to make some transition to playing on the wing and in the high post, and a lot of that has to do with his ability to make shots.

"My shot is getting better," explained Cunningham. "I have been getting up a lot of shots in practice and stuff. People have said I need to make shots, and that is why I am trying to do."

Recruiting wise he has picked up offers and interest from several programs.

"Bradley, DePaul, and Oklahoma have offered," said Cunningham. "Also I am hearing from Michigan State and Iowa."

DePaul is not only in his hometown, but also the Blue Demons have Billy Garrett from Morgan Park coming in next year, and Garrett's father is also a coach on the DePaul staff.

"It is real good to have an offer from them," said Cunningham of DePaul. "I know the coaching staff real well, and I feel like if I were to go there they would take care of me."

Iowa has been involved with Cunningham for a while, and the expectation is for them to be taking a close look at his game during the spring evaluation period.

"I like the fan base and the coaching staff at Iowa," said Cunningham. "I feel like they would get me better and help me get to the player I need to be."

At the moment Cunningham has no timeframe for when he will make a decision, but nothing is likely to happen before the end of the summer. He does know however what he is looking for in a school.

"I look for a school that likes to get up and down and also I like playing zone defense," noted Cunningham.
