Patton Stays Home, Picks Marshall

Marshall University recently received a bit of good news. WV PF Mark Patton, a local product, will announce that he intends to play for Marshall head coach Greg White.

Patton Headed To Marshall

Ona (WV) Cabell Midland power forward Mark Patton will announce for Marshall in the next few days. A family member, when contacted at Patton's home, confirmed the news with BlueChipHoops.

Patton, 6-8/190, is one of those extremely skilled forwards. He has scoring tools inside and out. What he'll need is to add strength and weight to his frame. Patton's father is the Marshall team doctor, so the decision shouldn't catch anyone off guard.

Miami-OH, West Virginia, Xavier and Virginia Tech pursued him hard. He also received interest from Notre Dame and Wake Forest.

"I think Mark's got a shot at being a very good player because he's being very athletic and long," Buck Hoffmaster, Patton's summer coach said. "Once his physical strength comes around and he gains a little weight, he's got a big upside."

Patton played all spring and summer with the Panhandle Players and also attended the 2001 Nike All-American Camp.
