Martin makes impression

Three-star forward Kelan Martin was one of the most productive players all weekend at the Shootout.

At 6-foot-5 and 220 pounds, Louisville (Ken.) Ballard product Kelan Martin is a tough player to guard. At the Shootout, Martin made a huge impression playing with Indiana Elite and was excellent all event long leading his team to the championship game.

While Martin isn't an elite athlete or have great quickness, he just knows how to get things done on the basketball court. The AAU season got off to a great start, and he feels he is in the middle of a major improvement in his game.

"I think I played pretty well this year," said Martin. "It was a breakout year for me winning a state championship and just improving."

According to Martin the biggest improvement came in making himself difficult to defend all over the floor.

"I worked hard on my inside game especially in high school," said Martin. "Now I am comfortable inside and outside."

Recruiting wise this is going to be a big month for Martin as he has a chance to play in front of college coaches and make a case for himself. Martin says several schools have already told him they will be watching closely.

"Western Kentucky, Indiana State, and Ohio University said they would be watching me in April," noted Martin. "I have scholarship offers from Ohio University, Western Kentucky, Indiana State, and IUPUI."

For now Martin remains open in the process, but he does have a good idea of what he is looking for in a school.

"I look for how a school runs their offense and defense," said Martin. "Also I want a place where I know I will be able to play and compete for minutes."
