McNeil to follow Pitino to Minnesota

Richard Pitino picked up a 2013 commitment on Wednesday. Daquein McNeil is headed to Minnesota.

Richard Pitino picked up his first commitment at Minnesota and it came from a familiar name.

Daquein McNeil, who committed and signed with Florida International when Pitino was there, is now headed to Minnesota, according to his high school coach Jesse Bopp.

"Daquein chose FIU because of how he felt about Richard Pitino and Kimani Young," Bopp told "This decision used the same criteria."

McNeil, a 6-foot-3, 175-pound guard, is a talented scorer. Bopps said he intensity and ability to put up points will help Minnesota.

"His love of competition and his ability to score in a variety of ways give him a chance to be successful in the Big Ten," Bopp said.

McNeil averaged 19 points a game during his senior season at Vermont Academy. He was name 2nd tema All-NEPSAC and is regarded as a three-star prospect on
