"This past season I feel that I improved on a lot of things," said Nickens. "I improved my ball handling and just being an effective guard instead of just shooting the ball. I feel like I improved on defense as well since I was force to go out and guard people."
At 6-foot-6 with long arms and the ability to shoot the ball, Nickens is someone who has significant college attention.
"I have offers from Oregon State, Temple, Providence, Seton Hall, St. Joe's, VCU, Dayton, Richmond, Creighton, Wake Forest, St. John's, and Oklahoma. Also I have interest from Miami, Maryland, and Georgetown, , and that is about it."
He continued, "I have a visit with Oregon State for May 10, that is my first one. I don't have any others scheduled."
Oregon State has made quite an impression on Nickens, and really impressed him and his family during a recent in-home visit.
"I had an in-home last weekend and they told me how everyone is like family, and that is something I am looking for," said Nickens.
For now the three-star prospect doesn't want to commit to any sort of timeframe for a decision. He does know what he is looking for in a school, and it is built around a family atmosphere.
"I am looking for a school with a good coaching staff, good academics, a good environment, and a good fan base," said Nickens. "Also like I said I am looking for a coaching staff and players that are like a family, that is the biggest thing."
