Doughty emerges on national stage

Point guard Samir Doughty proved himself as a high level prospect during the first April evaluation weekend.

The City of Brotherly Love amongst other things is known for its ability to produce high level guards on the basketball floor. In the class of 2013 it was Rysheed Jordan, and now in 2015 one more seems to really be emerging, Samir Doughty. At the Pitt Hoop Group Jam Fest Doughty was excellent and began to make a name for himself.

Standing roughly 6-foot-3 with one of the best handles in the country, Doughty is someone who can do a lot of things, but what he does best is get to the rim. With his size he can play multiple spots on the floor, and Doughty could just be scratching the surface of just how good he is.

"I do a good job of getting my teammates involved and I can score," said Doughty about his game. "Also I am a pretty good shooter."

He continued, "I just want to show people that I am one of the top players in the country."

Recruiting wise he didn't have an offer before the weekend, but several schools were really showing significant interest.

"Xavier, Villanova, Temple, and La Salle are the ones I can remember, but there are a few more," said Doughty.

With more and more schools beginning to take notice of his game, Doughty says he is out to prove a few things about what he brings to the table.

"I just try and win, and show the coaches that I am a winner and a tough player who will do whatever it takes to win a game," said Doughty.

He continued, "I know I have to get better on defense, I know if I do that I will really improve as a player."

With another weekend of evaluations coming up, look for numerous coaches to be taking a long look at Doughty.
