With long arms and a high motor, Butts managed to have a very productive year for O'Connell. As a team it was also a successful one.
"High school was great," said Butts. "We had a little up and down during the season, but we won our conference championship. We lost in state but we didn't let that get us down, it was a great season."
Now on the AAU circuit, Butts is out to prove his versatility as a prospect.
"I am just trying to show everybody that I can shoot and put the ball on the floor while going inside as well," said Butts.
Recruiting wise several schools are showing significant attention and recently a big offer came his way.
The offer from the Bearcats was a big one for Butts, and it showed that his hard work is paying off.
"It was a big deal to get that offer," Butts explained. "It really shows that I can play with the best of the best."
One school showing significant attention is Virginia. The Cavaliers have made recruiting the Washington D.C. area a priority and Butts is a big part of that.
"Virginia is a good school," explained Butts. "They have good academics and it is in the ACC which is a great conference."
For now there is no timetable for a commitment from Butts, but the combo forward says that he has a decent idea of what he is looking for in a school and what kind of system suits his particular game.
"I like to play in a system where I can flow into the offense," said Butts. "I like to get up and down the floor and rebound a lot so I am looking for that type of offense."
