EYBL Dallas: Day Two, Part A

DALLAS - Malik Newman was one of several prospects who put together impressive performances on Saturday during the second day of the third EYBL session.

Stanley Johnson, SF, Oakland Soldiers: After having mixed success for much of the game against Jackson Tigers, Johnson decided to go in another direction. About midway through the second half, Johnson started relentlessly attacking the basket pretty much whenever he received the ball and there was no stopping him, as he either scored or got to the line pretty much every time. Johnson did hit a couple shots from outside, but it was his determination to get to the basket that really stood out on Saturday morning.

Ed Simpson, SG, Jackson Tigers: The first half against the Soldiers belonged to Simpson, as he just couldn't miss from distance. Simpson hit five three-pointers off the catch in the half, helping the Tigers get off to a big lead. In the second half, Simpson did a little more off the dribble and hit an important floater to help seal the Tiger's victory.

Gabe Vincent, SG, Oakland Soldiers: Vincent had a quietly productive game against the Jackson Tigers. He hit three shots from long range off the catch and played really aggressive off the ball defense, consistently preventing his man from getting the ball. He also had a big steal and transition bucket in the second half to put the Soldiers within striking distance.

Isaiah Whitehead, SG, NJ Playaz: Whitehead was trying to get his pull-up jumper working all game and while he had mixed success, he did make a lot of plays in transition, getting to the basket and finding open teammates. He had a couple big moments late in the game, nailing a long baseline jumper and getting to the line with about 40 seconds let in the game.

Dwayne Foreman, PF, Boo Williams: There wasn't much of a mystery what Foreman wanted to do when he got the basketball and that was attack the basket. He rebounded very well – especially on defense – but he also scored on a few putbacks on offense. Foreman used his strength and motor to muscle in 15 points on Saturday morning.

Tyus Jones, PG, Howard Pulley: His teammates weren't giving him a ton of help against E1T1, but Jones still played well in the blowout loss. His vision is always impressive and Saturday afternoon was no different as he was zipping one pinpoint pass after the next down court for assists. He played hard on defense and collected a handful of assists, and was able to score on drives to the basket and pull-up three-pointers.

Reid Travis, PF, Howard Pulley: Travis had a solid game against E1T1, getting out to a quick start before leveling out. The face-up four has a very smooth stroke and is a threat to knock down the open jumper but he also uses his long arms, bounce and motor to try and finish above the rim when he gets the ball in the paint.

Joel Berry, PG, E1T1: Berry appeared to have two main goals against Howard Pulley and that was to get to the basket to score or create for a teammate. With 10 points and 11 assists, he definitely served his purpose well. Berry's effort on defense helped him pick up steals, which led to easy points or assists on the other end.

D'Angelo Russell, PG, E1T1: Russell scored 17 points against Howard Pulley, 9 of them coming off catch and shoot three-pointers, but he also got to the basket and finished with a floater. Russell rebounded well on the defensive end and created for others.

Grayson Allen, SG, E1T1: Allen was firing away on Saturday afternoon and just wasn't missing many shots. The floater was falling and he also hit three-pointers off the bounce and catch. Allen scored from all three levels, also getting to the basket and finishing. Duke is getting a talented shooter and scorer.

Michael Gilmore, PF, E1T1: Gilmore had some really impressive moments against Howard Pulley. He scored on a steal and a floater, a catch and shoot three, a pull-up three, a pull-up jumper from midrange and a floater. That's quite a scoring arsenal for a forward, but Gilmore had it all working on Saturday.

Theo Pinson, SF, CP3: Pinson went to work against Team Penny, especially in the first half, when he scored in a variety of ways. Pinson hit a pull-up jumper from about 12-feet out, hit a three off the catch, knocked down a floater, scored on a tip dunk, scored off an offensive board and finished an alley-oop dunk in transition. All told he ended up with 17 points in the game.

JaQuan Newton, SG, Team Final: Newton came out with an attacking mentality on Saturday afternoon versus Meanstreets and never stopped being the aggressor throughout the game. He got to the basket whenever he wanted, hit some high arcing floaters, scored in transition and hit a three-pointer off the bounce. He also was very successful setting up teammates for buckets. Newton finished with 16 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists.

Mikal Bridges, SF, Team Final: Bridges is just scratching the surface of what he should eventually be. His length is ridiculous and allows him to deflect passes and block shots when the offensive player isn't expecting it. He's a threat to knock down shots from three, rebounds well, moves without the ball and finishes in transition. When he puts on strength, forget it. There's a lot to be optimistic about with Bridges.

Tyler Ulis, PG, Meanstreets: Ulis is small but the point guard flat out knows how to play. He's always in control, gets to the free throw line – he shot and made 11 free throws against Team Final – can hit from three, makes his teammates better – eight assists to no turnovers in the game – and scores effortlessly on runners. He's a really talented little guard.

Ivan Rabb, PF, Oakland Soldiers: It was about a year ago that Rabb moved up to the Soldiers' 17U team and really established himself as one of the premier prospects in his class nationally. He was good a year ago; he's really good now. When Rabb gets the ball in the paint, he is much quicker to make decisions and usually within a moment has his defender off balance before quickly driving by him and either scoring or getting fouled. Rabb scores with both hands, finishes above the rim, is all over the offensive glass, scores on putbacks and blocks shots. The scary thing is he's just a fraction of where he'll be someday be physically. The future is very bright here.

Malik Newman, SG, Jackson Tigers: Newman pretty much took over the game against the Soldiers on Saturday morning. He had his pull-up jumper working at a very high level and was just hitting one shot after the next off the bounce from all over the place within the three-point line. Newman didn't only go to work with his pull-up game, but also scored on a floater, fade-away and driving to the basket. He's a big time scorer and never took his foot off the gas pedal on Saturday morning.

Isaiah Briscoe, SG, NJ Playaz: Briscoe was definitely looking to make plays in transition in this game, as whenever there was a change in possession he was off to the races. He defended well and took steals the other way for easy lay-ups. The jumper wasn't always falling, but he did knock down a floater with the foul. Briscoe is a strong kid who uses his body to finish through contact.

Skal Labissiere, C, Team Penny: Labissiere didn't get too much playing time against CP3 All-Stars, but he no doubt made the most of his time on the court. Labissiere was scoring off his hook shot, easily dunking anything he got around the basket, had some terrific blocks – including a terrific two-handed one – and looked smooth hitting a jumper from about 12-feet out. He's talented now, but his future is very bright.

Thon Maker, C, Boo Williams: The biggest impact that Maker has on the game right now is on the defensive end and against NJ Playaz on Saturday morning, he wasn't allowing many easy baskets. Maker blocked several shots and was all over the defensive glass. Like most young bigs his offense isn't as advanced as his defense, but his size, athleticism and motor clearly give a lot of hope for his future.

* Dorian Pickens had his moments for the Oakland Soldiers on Saturday morning. He started the first half with a couple catch and shoot threes and began the second half with a nice alley-oop to Ivan Rabb. He also scored on a putback.

* 2014 forward Devine Eke' of NJ Playaz made the most of his 14 minutes against Boo Williams, getting out in transition to get easy baskets. He was active all game and finished above the rim.

* Elijah Cain of NJ Playaz was able to hit a couple threes off the catch against Boo Williams, but really made his presence felt in transition, making some sharp passes that led to buckets. He also rebounded well on the defensive end.

* Gary Clark used his motor and athleticism to put together a productive game against Team Penny. He got up and down the court, scored in transition and was strong on the defensive glass.

* Team Final's 2015 forward Malachi Richardson made himself a threat from distance against Meanstreets, hitting threes off the catch in the loss, scoring 13 points in the process.

* 2015 shooting guard Charles Matthews of Meanstreets did a little bit of everything against Team Final, hitting threes off the catch, blocking shots, deflecting passes, creating for others and getting to the line.

* Seattle Rotary's Tremaine Isabell had a nice game against ICP, scoring 16 points, including 9 from three. He's a score-first point guard that can create his own shot.

* Josh Martin of Seattle Rotary continued his impressive display on the glass, coming up with 11 rebounds against ICP.

* Kameron Chatman of ICP is a ridiculously smooth player and had his moments against Seattle Rotary, scoring inside and out for 16 points.

* ICP's Tyler Dorsey picked up where he left off from Saturday night in attacking the basket, eventually finishing with 14 points in the process.

* Fresh off his UConn commitment, ICP's Daniel Hamilton scored 12 points with 7 rebounds against Seattle Rotary.

Gabe Vincent listed offers from Cal Poly, Portland, Sacramento State, San Jose State, Utah State and Pacific.

Reid Travis just picked up an offer from UCLA. He also listed Gonzaga, Iowa State, Stanford, Harvard, Minnesota and Northwestern as schools that are recruiting him hard.

Isaac Haas listed a top five of Kansas, UAB, Princeton, Texas A&M and Stanford.
