Byars Focusing On A Few Schools

Clyde Wade hit the shot and Derrick Byars threw the pass that helped Memphis YOMCA to an upset win over Athletes First at the AAU Nationals. The 6-6 Byars drew strong crowds of interested recruiters all summer long and is beginning to formulate a good list of schools.

Byars Sets Up One Official

Derrick Byars, a 6-6 swingman from Memphis (TN) Ridgeway, will take an official visit to Vanderbilt the weekend of Sept. 8. The Commodores were the first school to set up a visit with him.

IN no particular order, Byars' list reads Vanderbilt, Tennessee, UConn, Virginia and Clemson. Previously, Byars had listed Kentucky but now says he isn't sure what kind of interest the Wildcats have in him.

"I'm looking for the educational quality of the school, but of course I have to have a great bond with the coaching staff. Right now, it's down to where I fit in with the rotation," Byars said.
