Pitt lands 2016 pledge

The Pitt Panthers got their 2016 class started off early with a local pledge.

It didn't take long for Jamie Dixon to strike in the class of 2016. Pittsburgh offered and got the commitment of Lincoln (Penn) Performing Arts School standout Maverick Rowan on Sunday.

A 6-foot-5 versatile forward, Rowan has made a name for himself playing up on the 16-and under level with Ohio Basketball Club this spring. There Rowan has shown solid athleticism, an ability to get to the rim, and excellent long range shooting.

Now he will be a Pitt Panther according to his father Ron Rowan.

"Yes Maverick committed today," said Rowan. "He just felt very comfortable with the school and I told him playing close to home and succeeding would be the best thing."

He continued, "Also Maverick and myself both really like and trust Jamie Dixon. He has turned down several jobs and has remained loyal to the school. (Dixon) is also a great coach and someone who will help Maverick get better."

Even though he is young, Rowan was identified early, and once he knew Pitt was the place he didn't want to waste anyone's time and issued his commitment.
