According to Jeremy Ulmer, Hayes' coach at Suwannee, the proximity of the rising junior to Florida's campus made the decision easy.
"It's an hour away from his house," Ulmer said. "He loves the facility and they are a great team. It was a no-brainer for him."
Ulmer said that Hayes visited Florida a couple weeks ago, which reinforced his opinion on where he wanted to go to school.
"He had a real good trip," said Ulmer. "He's wanted to go there as long as I can remember. I don't think he had anywhere else he wanted to go to."
Hayes participated in the NIKE Elite 100 camp just over a week ago. During camp, Hayes played with energy. He's athletic, gets off the floor quickly and runs the floor well. At this stage, his biggest strength is shot blocking.
Hayes is currently regarded as a three-star prospect on Scout.com.
