Cartwright Still Under The Radar

Kyron Cartwright, a talented lefty point guard from Compton, has had a surprisingly slow recruitment to date...

Kyron Cartwright, 5-11 SR PG Compton (Calif.) High, is currently the most under-recruited top prospect in the West Coast class of 2014. A quick lefty with the ability to create his own shot at all three levels, Cartwright also has good vision and solid ball skills overall. While his decision-making may not always be perfect, there are way too many quality aspects to his game – and way too much upside – for his recruitment to not be at a higher level than it is today.

I spoke with Cartwright at the Fairfax tournament and asked about the schools that are recruiting him.

"Loyola Marymount, New Mexico, San Diego, Cal State Fullerton," said Cartwright. "I got an offer last week from LMU and Fullerton. I used to talk to Pepperdine, but I haven't heard from them."

I asked Cartwright if he has a top school at the moment.

"Probably LMU, they've been recruiting me the longest," said Cartwright.

Cartwright said he has been on one visit so far.

"The only school I visited was Pepperdine," said Cartwright. "I'm supposed to go to San Diego tomorrow and LMU on Wednesday. I also could potentially visit New Mexico after the summer."

When asked about the most important factors in his decision, Cartwright said, "the style of play. I'd like to play some early. I don't have to start, but I'd like to get some experience. "

When asked if the opportunity to stay close to home will factor into his decision, Cartwright replied, "I kind of want to go away, but I don't have to leave the west."
