Walton continues strong summer

Things have developed nicely for K.J. Walton on the AAU circuit and he is attracting more recruiting attention.

Four-star shooting guard K.J. Walton has had an excellent summer with the Spiece Indy Heat 16-and under program. The 6-foot-3 guard has shown his ability to get into the lane and finish as well as an improved jumper. He had numerous coaches tracking him at the adidas Invitational, and Walton didn't disappoint.

"I am just trying to show people my complete game, my defense, how hard I play, just my work ethic," said Walton of July.

His physical and athletic style has led to a lot of recruiting attention. So far he sits at two offers, but numerous other schools are taking a close look.

"Really I am hearing the most from Butler, Xavier, Illinois, Illinois State, Michigan, Vanderbilt, Clemson, and some Big Ten schools," said Walton. "Illinois State and Xavier are my only offers."

The offer from Xavier came on an unofficial visit, and he has stayed in steady contact with the program since that point.

"It is a great school and they really like me," Walton explained. "They say they are going to recruit me real hard. I talk to Coach (Travis) Steele almost like every day. I like how it is close to home and it is a great program."

Even though Walton has yet to be offered by Butler, he says the local school is recruiting him harder than anybody, and he has a good relationship with new Head Coach Brandon Miller.

"I have a great relationship with Coach Miller," said Walton. "It is probably one of my best ones, if not the best. I talk to him a lot and sent him a text to say congratulations and he said thank you."

He continued, "Coach Miller was the one recruiting me before he got the head job so we have a good relationship."

Walton is in no hurry to make any kind of college decision, and is simply focused on improving this summer and during the high school year.
