Trey Kell, a talented senior shooting guard from San Diego, says programs from the Mountain West and Big West are recruiting him the hardest to date...

Trey Kell, 6-4 SR SG San Diego (Calif.) St. Augustine, is the best shooter in the West Coast class of 2014 and he's one of the elite players overall. I spoke with him recently and got an update on his recruitment.

"I'm hearing from Gonzaga, San Diego State, UC Irvine, Davidson and Boise State are the main ones I've been talking with," said Kell. "They've all offered."

When asked if he has a sense of which schools are recruiting him the hardest, Kell replied, "San Diego State and UC Irvine. Those are probably the two recruiting me the hardest."

Kell talked a little about the factors he'll consider when choosing a school.

"I need a school that's strong academically," said Kell. "A school with a great coaching staff and good people at the school. I'd like to stay on the West Coast, but the main thing for me is finding the right school. So if the right school is in the east, I'm fine with that."

Kell said he has taken unofficial visits to San Diego State and UC Irvine. I asked him for his impression of San Diego State.

"It was nice," said Kell. "It's a good school and I got to meet with all the coaches. It was my first time meeting with Coach Hutson, he's the new coach there. It wasn't anything new really, just getting back together and strengthening our relationship."

Kell said he has a 3.2 GPA and he plans on signing in November.
