Mitchell cuts list, will plan visits

Four-star guard Devin Mitchell has cut his list of schools to eight. His next step is setting up college visits.

Devin Mitchell, a standout at Suwanee (Ga.) Collins Hill, has narrowed his list of schools to eight.

Among the schools with a shot at landing Mitchell, a four-star guard, include Kansas State, Memphis, Wake Forest, UAB, Alabama, Georgia, Cincinnati and Mississippi.

"Pretty much all of these schools, I've developed pretty good relationship with all the coaches that was a big thing for me," Mitchell said.

"I feel like from a comfort standpoint, I feel like I could see myself playing for all these coaches," he added. "That helped me narrow it down. These are the ones that I felt the most comfortable with."

Mitchell has a reputation as shooter and all of the schools involved are in need of someone that can make shots.

"They all have the similar situation where they needed a guard that can shoot the ball and score the ball," he said. "It'd be opportunity to come in and compete for a spot early and get minutes as a freshman."

With eight schools on his list, the next step is to begin figuring out official visits.

"From here I just kind of look at official visits and try to take five of them," Mitchell said. "Hopefully I don't have to take five officials and three unofficials, but if I have to do it, I'll do it."

"I'm looking to cut it to five in the next month and a half," he added. "I'm just going to look at it closer and dissect all of the schools."

Mitchell said he knows of four schools that he would like to visit officially.

"Kansas State for sure," he said. "Wake Forest for sure and Alabama for sure and Cincinnati too."

Are there any head coaches that Mitchell has developed stronger relationships with?

"Not really a favorite, but I'd say UAB and UGA," Mitchell said.

"They've been recruiting me the longest since I was a sophomore," he added. "Just talking to them over the last two years I've gained a relationship with them. I know how they are thinking from a basketball standpoint and I know how they'll use me. We don't just talk about basketball, we talk about other things."

Mitchell is currently ranked No. 78 overall in the 2014 class.
