Larry Brown picked up his highest rated recruit at SMU on Saturday when Scout.com's No. 3 prospect -- Emmanuel Mudiay -- announced his verbal pledge during the Elite 24 game on Saturday.

"I'm going to attend SMU with coach Larry Brown," Mudiay said on ESPN.

An elite level point guard, Mudiay picked SMU over strong interest from Kentucky, Baylor, Kansas and Oklahoma State.

"He's a Hall of Fame coach," Mudiay said. "He coaches Hall of Fame players. One day I want to play in the NBA. He's coached at the highest level. I can learn a lot from him. That's where my heart is at. I got real respect for him."

Mudiay's physical attributes for the point guard position are impressive. He's fast, a very good athlete and has exceptional vision. On top of all that, Mudiay boasts an improved jump shot and is a terrific finisher at the rim.

Brown has quickly had success on the recruiting trail. Last year he was able to reel in top 100 recruits Keith Frazier and Sterling Brown. With the addition of Mudiay, it can only help in their pursuit of 6-foot-11 big man Myles Turner, who has SMU on his list.

Mudiay, who stands 6-foot-4, is the highest rated lead guard in the 2014 class. Mudiay is SMU's first pledge of the 2014 class.
