"Yanni is my day one guy," Baldwin said. "The very first day I was allowed to be called by colleges, he called and offered me from Harvard. That boosted my relationship with them.
"Every day since then I've been in contact with him," He added. "Then he went to Vanderbilt and kept recruiting me."
Once at Vanderbilt, Hufnagel continued pursuing Baldwin. On Sunday, Baldwin publicly committed to Kevin Stallings and the Commodores.
"I feel in love with coach Stallings," Baldwin said. "He's a top 25 coach."
"Seeing the campus life that they have there, which was something I was looking for," Baldwin said when asked why he pledged to Vandy. "They definitely have that. I just feel like I could make this my home for the next four years."
"Walking in there, it just felt like the place to be," he added. "I feel like I can go there and spend four years, or maybe less."
Baldwin was on Vanderbilt's campus for a visit this weekend, attending their football game on Thursday, touring the campus and spending time with their team.
"Obviously they have a great track record for academics and a great track record in terms of basketball, with winning the SEC championship two years ago," Baldwin said. "They produced pros. They've had three in the past few years."
"It was amazing," he said about the visit. "The players there are great. They have a great attitude and a will to win, just like I do. The campus was fun and I had a really good time out there. The football game was fun too."
Baldwin is Vanderbilt's first pledge of the 2014 recruiting class.
