Around the Nation: 9/13

In this space we discuss the latest behind the scenes changes to the database, based on stories we publish on the national site as well as stories from network team sites, social media rumblings and other internet tidbits.

1. After missing on point guard Quentin Snider to Illinois on Thursday, UCLA bounced back with some very upbeat news this afternoon. The Bruins reeled in 2013 McDonald's All-American and former UTEP signee Isaac Hamilton, a sensationally talented scorer with excellent quickness, ball-handling skills and shooting touch.

Hamilton inked with the Miners but cited his grandmother's failing health as a reason he needed to play closer to home. His attempt to obtain a release has failed, however — and UTEP has refused to release him — and thus he'll likely sit out this season and begin play in 2014-15.

2. Elite center Cliff Alexander has scheduled a visit for October 26 to Illinois. As mentioned above, the Fighting Illini received welcome news last night when Snider committed, and now they'll try to pull the coup with Alexander.

Kansas has been linked closely to him, and the Jayhawks also are rumored to be staging a strong recruitment for Myles Turner as well.
