Craig Wilmore didn't arrive with much of a reputation. A 6-3 SG at Daytona Beach (Fla.) Mainland, he obviously hails from a high school that knows something about producing athletes (e.g., Vince Carter).
But he's looking to make his own name, and as a senior this is his final crack at earning scholarships. Based on his play this past weekend, he's certainly worthy high mid-major attention. He's a fine athlete who skies for slams, uses his quickness to attack big men (and draw fouls) and appears to be a fairly good shooter. His Saturday exploits included a game-winning three-pointer as time expired.
While a few schools are checking him out, however, as yet he lacks any Division I scholarship offers.
"Right now, it's Murray State, Marist and Jacksonville," Wilmore said. "No one has offered yet, but I'm hoping to get some during the season."
So far, so good, and now Wilmore will have six months or more to entice offers from those and potentially even bigger programs.
