Announcement Primer: Devin Booker

Devin Booker, a four-star shooting guard out of Mississippi, will announce his college decision at his high school Thursday afternoon. gives you a look into his recruitment, his game and makes predictions.

The Recruitment

Buzz began to build about Devin Booker during his sophomore season at Moss Point (Miss.) High. Then playing on the EYBL circuit in between his sophomore and junior year, Booker established himself as a high major recruit.

Before the July evaluation periods in 2012, Booker had offers from Arkansas, Florida, Michigan, Mississippi, Mississippi State and Missouri. At that time, Michigan and Missouri were the heavy favorites. His mom lived in Michigan and he's spent a lot of time in the area, while his father – Melvin Booker -- was an All-American at Missouri so he was quite familiar with their program as well.

As that summer wore on, Booker began attracting more heavy hitters to his recruitment. North Carolina and Duke both began recruiting him after his strong summer. They both ended up offering in the early spring of 2013. He also took visits to UNC and Duke, as well as multiple trips to Michigan, Missouri and others.

Once the Spring of 2013 rolled around, Booker was a priority recruit for all of the schools mentioned above. In April, Kentucky offered Booker a scholarship and looking back that was a big deal. After the summer, Booker narrowed his list and set up official visits to Kentucky, Michigan, Michigan State and Missouri.

Booker visited all four schools officially and even stopped by Missouri a second time this past weekend to see his father's 1994 team get recognized. Booker will announce his college choice this evening around 3:00 ET at his high school.

The Talent

There's a lot to like about Booker's game. With Booker it all starts with his jump shot. He has a very smooth stroke, with impressive shooting mechanics. His range goes well past the three-point line. What helps Booker, is he's not just a stand still shooter, he's more than capable of putting the ball on the deck and making shots from mid-range.

While he's not a guy that Kentucky will play on the ball, Booker does have good ball skills and plays with the game with a sense of intelligence. He's also a good passer that plays smart. Physically, Booker has good size at 6-foot-5 and is blessed with a solid frame.

Booker is ranked No. 31 overall and as the No. 5 shooting guard in the 2014 recruiting class.

Evan Daniels: Up until recent days, Booker had me guessing. Early on Michigan seemed like the favorite. Then more recently I went back and forth between Kentucky and Missouri. Following his Kentucky official, they seemed to have the most momentum, but he then visited Missouri back-to-back weekends prior to his announcement. With all that said, I think Booker's visit to Kentucky has been in the back of his mind for a while. Booker is a friend of Tyler Ulis, who is now a UK commit. Heading into his Kentucky visit, I didn't think they lead. Since I think they've been the clubhouse leader. Prediction: Kentucky

Brian Snow: For a while it looked like this one was up in the air, but the last few days there has been some clarity. The Michigan schools seem to have fallen off, and that leaves Kentucky and Missouri. However by all accounts the Wildcats have never lost their lead following his official visit to the school, and he should be playing his college ball for John Calipari. Prediction: Kentucky
