Owens backs off early pledge

Alex Owens, Scout.com's No. 15 center in the 2015 class, made a commitment to UCF in September. He has since opted to back off that pledge.

It didn't take Alex Owens long to rethink his early verbal commitment to UCF.

Owens, a 6-foot-8 big man out of Orlando (Fla.) Oak Ridge, committed to Donnie Jones and his staff on September 17th. On Tuesday, Owens backed off his pledge, according to Each One Teach One coach Steve Reese.

"That's what he just told me," Reese told Scout.com.

"He just said that he wanted to reopen it and make sure he goes through the recruitment process," he added.

A four-star center in the 2015 class, Owens had plenty of high major interest prior to committing to UCF. Florida State, Florida, Miami, USF, Georgia, Cincinnati, Maryland Missouri and others were involved with his recruitment.

"He likes UCF," Reese said. "They have a great staff. He just said he wanted to open it back up and go through the process.

"He doesn't have a list right now because everyone backed off before he committed," he added.

According to Reese, Owens, a four-star recruit, had not taken any unofficial visits prior to committing to UCF.
