Doorson opens for Panthers

While the fall signing period is now complete, Pitt reportedly has gained a big man to enhance the program's incoming class.

We don't know a lot about Shaquille Doorson, but the Netherlands native and Canarias Basketball Academy (Spain) product is now set to play for Pittsburgh beginning in 2014-15.

A 6-11, 265-pound big man, Canarias announced Doorson's decision via press release and issued quotes from the new Panther as follows:

"This was always the goal for me and the reason why I came to CBA. My dream has come true, to know I'll be playing in the ACC under a great coach and at a great program in a powerhouse conference. I can only thank Rob Orellana and his coaching staff for pushing me everyday to make this dream become a reality".

Based on highlights — always a dubious evaluation tool, but in this instance it's the best medium we have — Doorson appears to be a true center with an offensive game that's likely more of a work in progress. Based on style, anyway, he appears to be a conventional American-type center, rather than a prototypical European face-up player.

Pitt now holds commitments from Doorson and three star forward Ryan Luther along with incoming transfer Sheldon Jeter.
