2015 Mitchell plays well at Prep showcase

2015 guard Donovan Mitchell had a strong weekend for Wolfeboro (N.H.) Brewster Academy in New Haven (Conn.) at the National Prep Showcase.

The National Prep Showcase always provides a good look at some of the better available senior and post-graduate prospects, but there's always a couple of underclassmen that use the event to raise their stock.

Junior Donovan Mitchell was one of the underclassmen that took advantage of the stage this year.

Blessed with a strong, chiseled frame and very good athleticism, Mitchell, a 6-foot-2 shooting guard, proved tough to contain in transition and attacking the rim.

"I would say that's my strong suit, transition and getting out on the break and being able to attack the basket," Mitchell told Scout.com.

What is he working on?

"Shooting," he said. "I took maybe one jump shot this weekend, which is something I usually don't do. I'm just trying to go to the basket every play, but sometimes it's to a fault. That's what I need to work on the most."

Things have picked up for Mitchell on the recruiting front. He currently claims scholarship offers from Creighton, Providence, Cincinnati, Boston College, Maryland, Connecticut and Fordham.

"Recruiting is going really well," Mitchell said. "I have a bunch of schools from the Big East, ACC, Big Ten and Big 12."

Mitchell also has interest from Kansas and Florida. To date, Mitchell has only take a couple of unofficial visits.

"I went to Providence midnight madness," he said. "That one was pretty fun. Last year I went to Providence and B.C. and went to Maryland and UConn too."

Despite the early interest, Mitchell isn't close to making his college decision.

"Definitely still early," Mitchell said. "Especially since I came here. That changed everything a lot."
