At 6-foot-8 with good athleticism, a solid motor, and the ability to really rebound the basketball, Phillips has an opportunity to emerge in the 2015 class, and right now he thinks he is off to a good start.
"The season has started off pretty good," said Phillips. "We are doing good as a team, and I think my improvement over the summer has really helped me during the high school season."
He continued, "Right now I have just been working on my ball handling, dribbling, and shooting. I have also been working some on my post game."
Recruiting wise a handful of schools are really picking up the interest in Phillips.
The Cincinnati Bearcats led by Head Coach Mick Cronin and assistant Antwon Jackson have been very active in the Washington DC area, and Phillips says he likes what he sees with the program.
"They are a really good coaching staff," said Phillips of Cincinnati. "Coach Cronin is really good and Coach Jackson is from this area and has been talking to me and stuff, so it is good with Cincinnati."
In June Phillips made a visit to Xavier, and he came away impressed with what he saw.
"I think they are a pretty good team," said Phillips. "I visited there in June and I really liked their facilities and everything there was just pretty cool."
Right now Phillips says his list is still wide open, but the power forward does have a good idea of what he is looking for in a program.
"I am just looking for a place with structure and a good team that also likes to get out and run," Phillips explained.
Currently Phillips is the No. 24 ranked power forward in the class of 2015.
