2016 Intro: Derrick Daniels

Class of 2016 power forward Derrick Daniels has major upside and is someone picking up big time recruiting attention.

The city of Dayton produces some very good hoops talent and one of the better young prospects in the area is Derrick Daniels. The Dayton (Ohio) Thurgood Marshall standout already is a hot commodity on the recruiting trail and has picked up his first offer.

Thurgood Marshall got a big win over Sunrise Christian at Flyin to the Hoop, and Daniels was proud of the entire team for how they played.

"It gave me a chance to help put my team out there to show that we work as hard as any big prep school," said Daniels. "We just tried to bond as a team, fight through adversity and get a win."

Recruiting wise the 6-foot-7 and 200 pound Daniels is already beginning to pick up significant interest.

"I am hearing from Tennessee, Dayton, Xavier, Ohio State, Cincinnati, and Iowa," noted Daniels. "I have an offer from Dayton."

According to Daniels the offer from Dayton was a big one for him.

"It is an honor to have an offer from them," said Dawson of the Flyers. "For me to have a chance to be a hometown hero is an honor."

Already Daniels has made unofficial visits to Tennessee and Ohio State. He says both trips were very impressive.

"Tennessee was awesome," noted Daniels. "The atmosphere of an SEC school was great. I really enjoyed it. Coach Martin is a great coach, and when I first met him it was clear the way he approaches things and conducts himself as a leader was great."

About Ohio State, he said, "The fans were a sight to see. It was something that a kid like me can only dream of. They are just telling me to keep my head up and stay aggressive."

Another school that has made an early impression is Cincinnati. Daniels says he likes the intensity of head coach Mick Cronin.

"I talk to the coaches a lot," explained Daniels. "Coach Cronin is a very enthusiastic coach and I like that. He gets into his players and without a coach doing that players have nobody pushing them so I respect that."

For now Daniels is hoping to lead his team to a state title and is focused on improving his skill level to match his impressive athleticism and high motor.
