Thiero To Wait Until September

It looks as if Top 100 forward Almany Thiero of Mount Zion has a plan for college. Thiero, who hails from West Africa, plays with Linzy Davis' Team Georgia and attended the 2001 Nike All-American Camp.

Will Wait Until September

On Saturday, we wrote that PF Almany Thiero's plan was to commit to Memphis. However, we've since learned that plan has been tabled. "He's going to wait until September to make an announcement on what he's going to do," Donald Fozard, director of basketball operations said on Monday. "He wants to sit back and take a look at the overall picture."

Fozard said that Thiero is going to look at Memphis, Louisville, Michigan and Oklahoma.

Almany Thiero, a 6-8, 245-pounder, is likely headed to Memphis, according to Mount Zion head coach Antonio Fozard. The West African native was not available for comment, but Fozard indicated that the plan was for Thiero to commit and play at Memphis.

Thiero had a strong showing at the Boo Williams Invitational last April and then followed it up with another standout performance at the Nike All-American Camp. He's big, strong and bouncy. He likes to shoot it from the perimeter and can do so reliably to medium-range.

Thiero is the fourth player to commit to John Calipari this year. C Amare Stoudemire was the first, followed by SF Qyntel Woods and then combo guard Jeremy Hunt. Thiero's commitment gives Memphis the insurance it needs should Stoudemire leave for the NBA.

Theiro is currently ranked No. 76 in the Post-Summer Top 100.
