Gottfried pledges to Siena

Lost this season amid the sea of high-majors competing in North Carolina, Gottfried quietly has demonstrated real improvement and now has a scholarship hoops future.

Though most of the grassroots recruiting world has directed its focus on the upcoming Rashad Vaughn announcement, this week also brought good news to Siena. Cameron Gottfried parlayed a strong senior season into an offer from the Saints, and he announced his commitment on Twitter.

Gottfried had been considered a walk-on possibility for N.C. State, where his father, Mark, is the head coach. But Cameron has played a little too well to be walk-on, showcasing a smooth outside stroke and enhanced athleticism this year at Raleigh (N.C.) Broughton.

I watched Gottfried at the High School OT Invitational in December and saw a much-improved prospect. He obviously has enjoyed elite seasoning for a high school athlete, and rather than toil at a level that's above his reach he'll join a program for which he realistically has a chance to become a starter.
