Osama Mahmoud, who stands 7-foot-1, arrived in September and is a senior at Orlando (Fla.) West Oaks Academy. His high school coach – Shaun Wiseman – raved about his skill set and upside.
"I've never had a big as skilled as this kid is," Wiseman said. "He blocks shots and passes. His basketball IQ is off the charts."
"I think his basketball is ahead of him," Wiseman said. "Once his body [develops] and he learns how to play hard every possession, once he sees how hard he has to play at the college basketball level it's going to all come together for him."
"It's so new to him," Wiseman said about the recruiting process.
"He's not going to make any decision until the spring," he added. "We are going to play it out. He's going to take an official to Georgia Tech and Minnesota. Then he's going to take two more after the season and then make a decision."
Osama Mahmoud took an official visit to Louisville for their game against Memphis on January 9th. Osama Mahmoud also has a strong connection to the Louisville area, as his guardian resides in Louisville.
"He enjoyed it," Wiseman said. "Every trip is good for him. He enjoyed Louisville. He really likes Louisville. He likes coach Pitino and likes the staff. There's a lot to like there. But he also wants to see a few other schools and compare and make a decision this spring."
Osama Mahmoud is scheduled to visit Georgia Tech officially from February 14th to the 16th. On the 16th, he'll travel to Minnesota for his official visit with the Gophers.
