McQuaid visits SMU, has offers

Matt McQuaid, a four-star prospect, has a handful of early scholarship offers and visited SMU recently.

Four-star prospect Matt McQuaid is having a strong junior campaign. According to the 6-foot-5 wing out of Duncanville (Tex.) High, he's averaging 16 points and five assists a game.

"I'm playing more guard and point guard oriented," McQuaid explained.

McQuaid had a successful summer playing for Team Texas Elite. McQuaid is known for his ability to shoot from three, but he's also a solid athlete with good ball skills. What does McQuaid's game look like when he's playing his best?

"I'm shooting the three and putting the ball on the floor when I have to and just making a play from there," he said.

College interest has been steady for McQuaid, who is ranked No. 69 in the 2015 class.

"It's going good," he said. "Gonzaga they offered me [recently]. Michigan is starting to show a lot of interest."

McQuaid also holds scholarship offers from SMU, Creighton, Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama and Baylor. Stanford and Harvard are heavily involved in his recruitment as well.

This past weekend he took an unofficial visit to the local school – SMU.

"That was fun," he said about the visit." They rushed the floor. It was a really good experience. They've been to a lot of my high school games."

"They've turned the program around real quick and coach [Larry] Brown is one of the best coaches in the country," McQuaid added.

Despite the early attention, McQuaid isn't close to making his college choice.

"It's still kind of early," he said. "I'm open to anybody."
