2017 Intro: Mitchell Ballock

EUDORA, Kans. -- Freshman guard Mitchell Ballock already has interest from his hometown school and has picked up an offer from a program in the Big East.

Eudora (Kans.) isn't exactly known as a town that produces basketball talent. However, the city of just over 6,000 people has a freshman basketball player that is already beginning to pick up college interest.

Mitchell Ballock, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard, is putting up big scoring numbers in his freshman season and on Wednesday against Ottawa (Kans.) he continued his scoring spree by going for 25 points, on 8-for-16 shooting.

After missing his first four three-point attempts, Ballock got hot and hit four straight. The southpaw also worked in finishes at the rim, in transition and showed good ball skills.

"I bring intensity," Ballock said when asked to describe his game. "I bring some defense. I try to lock down on defense. I get my teammates involved and I get to the rim."

Kansas is among the schools that have been by Ballock's school. He said Norm Roberts is the point man on his recruitment.

"KU came to the first game of the year," the Eudora (Kans.) High standout said.

Ballock said he grew up following Kansas basketball and lives just 10 minutes from Allen Fieldhouse. He's only missed two of their games this season.

"I like the way they play and I like coach Self," Ballock said when asked about Kansas. "He yells at you, but he yells at you for a purpose. He's telling you what you do wrong, but it's in the right way."

"They play well together," he added. "He's always got guys coming in and out and guys going to the league and four year guys, but he always seems to get them to join together."

Creighton is also involved in Ballock's recruitment. They saw him practice at the beginning of the season and have already offered him a scholarship.

"I like the way they play," he said about Creighton. "They play like my summer team. They have athletic guards that get to the rim and finish and they can shoot. They have shooters all around and can spread the floor."

Ballock took a recent unofficial visit to Creighton.

"It was fun," he said of the trip. "It was more than I expected, but it was fun though. I saw everything and I saw the arena. The arena is big. It was a fun atmosphere to be in."

Tulsa, Oklahoma and Wichita State have also shown early interest in Ballock.
