It was an eventful Monday for 6-foot-5, 180-pound Temecula (Calif.) Valley 2015 point guard Justin Simon, who both narrowed his school list to 10 and earned an invite to the USA Basketball U18 training camp in June.
The camp takes place in mid-June 2014 and will feature many of the nation's top prospects.
While Simon entered his junior season as Scout.com's 55th ranked prospect in 2015, he's seen his recruiting and national stock soar, as he's picked up offers from several elite programs, while moving up the rankings to 16th nationally.
Playing in a city with a population of just over 100,000, Simon wasn't expecting to exit his junior year as a five-star with such serious recruiting attention, along with an invite to USA training camp, but also knows that his work is far from finished.
"To be honest, I didn't think any of this would be possible," said Simon. "It's all amazing to me right now but I need to keep working and get better.
"It's easy to fall off. Some kids may get caught up with all that stuff, but for me, (the accolades) make me want to work harder and get better. I have bigger goals and know that I need to keep working and stay focused."
"I liked the way all the schools remaining recruited me; they recruited me the right way," said Simon. "I have good relationships with all the schools and they're the right fit. Me, my family and AAU coach felt all those schools felt really well.
"Moving forward, we want to keep building relationships and take some more visits, both unofficial and officials later on."
As of now, Simon is eyeing a July decision, but nothing is set in stone.
"I would say sometime during the live period," he said of a decision date. "That's what it looks like right now, but we're still trying to figure it out."
