"I thought the season went very well," said Thompson. "I was very happy with the way I played in my last year. I had to fight through a few injuries that I didn't want, but I felt like I still played at a high level and did the best job that I could."
With that solid senior season under his belt, Thompson now has his biggest offer to date. The Purdue Boilermakers decided to come forward and offer Thompson on Monday, and that was a big deal for him.
"It was really big," said Thompson of the offer from Purdue. "A lot of people can't say they got an offer from one of the best programs in their state. I feel like Purdue is one of the best programs in the state, and they have been recruiting and talking to me since about eighth grade, and for them to offer me now and show me as much love as they have been showing me, it is just a big offer."
Thompson received the offer on the heels of an unofficial visit to the school. A visit that he says went very well.
"It was good to go to Mackey," Thompson explained. "The crowds are always good, and they are behind their guys. Also a lot of people in the stands were showing love and telling me they wanted me to come and that good stuff."
He continued, "I had a good talk with Coach (Matt) Painter and got to meet the other coaches, and it was just a pretty good visit."
In terms of any official visits, Thompson says one could be coming up in the near future.
"I have talked to Purdue about an official visit, but it probably won't be until after their season," said Thompson. "We haven't come up with an official date, but we will probably do that soon. I haven't talked to any other schools about an official so far."
In terms of what is next and making a commitment to a school, Thompson isn't sure an exact plan.
"I haven't really talked to my parents about the offer, so I will sit down and talk to them about Purdue," explained Thompson. "I am pretty excited about this, and they have been recruiting me the hardest. For them to pull the string and offer it is pretty neat. I am excited about that and we will see what happens from there, but Purdue is definitely at the top of my list right now."
